Temptation: Our Story - Lenten Series Begins March 13

Temptation, Our Story

When I read about the temptation of Jesus, I sometimes think of one of my favorite works of art on the subject, Vasily Surikov’s Temptation of Christ. It is a dark, foreboding interpretation of the story. I sometimes find myself lost in how an artist can tell stories with their work. For example, Surikov seems to paint this story with a fair amount of gloom. The colors in this artwork lead one to believe Jesus is experiencing some form of deep struggle. While our lectionary with Luke’s account of Jesus’ resisting temptation in the wilderness frames our Lenten season, I would like to remind us that this story also presents who the Son of God is to the world and his ministry.

We will share our own stories about who we are to the world and our ministries with this year’s Lenten Series. Join us on Wednesday nights for a Lenten Dinner with a little fellowship and a lot of storytelling. We will share a journey with Michael Mather’s book, Having Nothing, Possessing Everything. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
